Linocut with Water Soluble paint, 21 x 29.7 cm, February 2017

This artwork is to show the significant figure of Chinese culture. The technique I use in this artwork is cyanotype, which I used various of color to paint on the board .The color choice is different from the original Dragon dance object, which is not in red color but have lots of different kinds of color. The main character of this artwork is the head of the Dragon. I did not use to much bright color on the head of the dragon but use light color to make the dragon head, in order to make color contract on the body of the dragon. The body as I say before has really bright color. The background of the artwork is different too, which also has the meaning of culture diversity.

Below are some trails when I did this artwork:

Kick Against the Pricks

With acrylic paint, spray paint, egg shells, and the umbrella, 100 x 80 x 80 cm, December 2015

This is a sculpture. This artwork show what people did in the umbrella movement. The surface of the umbrella is made up with plenty of broken eggshells, and paints it with yellow color. The inside of the umbrella was pasted by the news of the umbrella movement. The aim of this artwork is to tell people what they did in the movement by going against the government is the same as a Chinese proverb: eggs bump into the rocks, which means it didn’t work.

This artwork is a painting. The aim of this artwork is to show how Chinese culture and history long-standing, well established, and both extensive and profound. The dragon in the vase that goes outside of the vase represents the aim. The background is mixed with yellow, red, and brown, which is also the significant color of China.

Sitting in The Untraditional Wedding Sedan

Oil paint on canvas, 50 x 40 cm, December 2016

Oil paint on canvas, 50 x 40 cm, December 2016

The main theme of this artwork is to go against the tradition. What a normal Chinese bridal sedan chair is in red color, with bride sitting inside the sedan chair. However, I did not want what tradition is, and change the color of the bridal sedan chair into the opposite color of red, that is, green. And unlike some beautiful patterns on the traditional sedan, I used graffiti to decorate the sedan. The main part is, I decided to let bridegroom to sit inside of the sedan instead of bride, and let him doing something rude, such as smoking, sitting in an inappropriate posture, and with a sad face, which is obviously against the tradition. Furthermore, the bridegroom is holding a telephone, which shows that he is looking forward to the modern life.

The topic of this artwork is the Chinese New Year. What the artwork shows is a situation in the Chinese society. Red pockets means bringing good luck in China. People will get red pocket during the Chinese New Year, therefore they as the time past, people wants red pocket not for the best wishes from the red pocket, but the money inside it. Some people even complain the amount of the money is not enough. That’s what I want to criticise.

The topic of this artwork is texture. The aim of the artwork is to show the beauty of the nature, which is shown by the peacock. The reason why I choose peacock is because peacock is gorgeous, with lots of textures on it. It does have many textures, and I do think I did success in making the texture with different materials.
